Martin Luther King Jr, who was born on January 15, 1929, in Atlanta, Georgia, U.S., and died on April 4, 1968, in Memphis, Tennessee, U.S. was an American activist, Baptist minister, and political philosopher. He played a leading role in the civil rights movement from 1955 until his assassination in 1968.

Martin Luther King Jr. attended racially segregated public schools in Georgia. He graduated from high school at the age of fifteen. In 1948, he earned a Bachelor of Arts degree from Morehouse College, a prestigious African American university in Atlanta, which his father and grandfather had also graduated from.
