Dinara Safina is a retired Russian tennis player born on April 27, 1986, in Moscow. She held the title of world No. 1 during her career. Her full name is Dinara Mubinovna Safina, and she is the sister of Marat Safin, who was also a former world No. 1 tennis player.
Dinara Safina debuted on the WTA Tour in May 2002, reaching the semifinals. She won her first tittle in Sopot. Safina, a former world #1 tennis player in April 2009, has 12 WTA titles and four ITF titles. After the back injury, she decided to retire in 2014.
Safina finished as the singles runner-up at the 2008 French Open, the 2009 French Open and 2009 Australian Open. Her accomplishments in doubles were even more remarkable, as she emerged victorious in the 2007 US Open alongside Nathalie Dechy. At the Beijing Olympics 2008, she won the Olympic silver medal for women’s singles.
