Bob Stoops, whose complete name is Robert Anthony Stoops was born on September 9, 1960, in Youngstown, Ohio, U.S. Bob is an American football coach and currently serves as the head coach of the Arlington Renegades football team. The most prominent role he has had in his career is that of the head coach of the University of Oklahoma football team. His tenure as head coach of the Sooners resulted in the team winning the Orange Bowl and the national championship in 2000.
Before starting his coaching career at Oklahoma, Stoops was a coordinator and coach for several schools, including Iowa, Kansas State, and Florida University. When Stoops was the head coach of his squad in 2000, they won three games in a row against ranked teams, including Kansas State, Texas, and Nebraska.
Stoops was awarded the 2000 Paul “Bear” Bryant Award and the 2000 and 2003 Walter Camp Coach of the Year.
XFL Career
Stoops declared his intention to end his retirement on February 7, 2019, he was appointed as the head coach/general manager of the Dallas Renegades in the XFL. He held this position until the league shut down on April 14, 2020, owing to bankruptcy caused by the COVID-19 pandemic. Stoops renewed his contract with the XFL on April 13, 2022. In 2023, the Arlington Renegades, previously known by a different name, secured the second position in the XFL South Division. This achievement is noteworthy as the Renegades had a below-average record of 4-6 throughout the regular season. Despite this, they managed to progress to the XFL playoffs. The Renegades emerged victorious in the South Division championship game against the Houston Roughnecks, securing their spot in the XFL Championship Game. In the showdown, the Renegades triumphed against the DC Defenders with a score of 35-26.
