Jesse, a gunner in the United States Army Air Forces, was killed in action in Austria in 1945.

The tragedy shook him up. Hatch grew up in a poor family that had a hard time making ends meet. He was the first in his family to go to college. He earned a history degree from Brigham Young University in 1959. After that, he went to law school and graduated with a Juris Doctor from Pitt’s School of Law. His young family lived with him in a remodeled chicken coop outside his parent’s house. He attended law school at the time.

Cause of Death

In Salt Lake City, Utah, Hatch died at 88 (April 23, 2022). The cause was complications from a stroke he suffered the previous week. They laid him to rest in the city of Newton.

Personal Life

He was married to Elaine Hansen for 60 years, until she died in 2020. Together, they had six kids and many grandchildren. The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints was very important to Hatch, and he was known for his faith.
