Ken Miles, born in Sutton Coldfield, Warwickshire, England, on November 1, 1918, was known by his full name Kenneth Henry Jarvis Miles. Tragically, he passed away on August 17, 1966, at Riverside International Raceway in California, United States.

He was a famous British engineer and driver of sports cars. He was known for having a great career in motorsport and also famous for his team work with other Americans in worldwide. The Motorsports Hall of Fame of America has made him a member.

Early Life

Ken Miles was born to Clarice Jarvis and Eric Miles in Sutton Coldfield on November 1, 1918.

At the age of 15, Miles decided to leave school and begin an apprenticeship with Wolseley Motors. He attended a technical school during his apprenticeship to learn about car construction.. Prior to joining the British Army in 1942, he was actively involved in motorcycle racing.

Career

Ken Miles initially began a career in motorcycle racing. He went on to serve as a tank commander in the British Territorial Army during World War II. After seven years of working with machines, he was promoted to staff sergeant in 1942.

Following the end of the war, he began his racing career. He competed in races organized by the Vintage Sports Car Club against Bugattis, Alfa Romeos, and Alvis. He later moved to the prestigious British carmaker Ford V8 Frazer-Nash.

Miles relocated from the United Kingdom to the United States in 1952, ultimately establishing his residence in Los Angeles, California. He secured a position as a service manager at Gough Industries, the exclusive distributor of MG automobiles in Southern California.

In 1953, he set a record for fourteen consecutive victories in SCCA racing by flying a custom-made vehicle based on the MG type he designed and built.

In 1955, he began the process of designing and manufacturing a car based on the MG component. He named the vehicle Flying Shingle. In 1957, he oversaw the engine and transmission of the Porsche 550S, a successful race car.

In the early 1960s, Miles was very important to the Shelby/Cobra race team. This was because he was a great engineer and driver. Miles gave an account of himself in the following way.
