He was a standout player at San Jose City College and earned the name player of the year. This recognition led to his selection as the 10th overall pick in the MLB Draft 1977 by the Texas Rangers.

Dave professional career began in 1979. He first played for the New York Yankees in 1990. After, he was part of the San Francisco Giants from 1991 to 1993; later, he played for Toronto Blue Jays and the Oakland Athletics. In 1995, Righetti concluded his career with the Chicago White Sox.

Coaching Career

Throughout his coaching career, he was the coach for the Giants. Under his guidance, the Giants achieved a remarkable feat by winning the 2002 National League pennant despite ultimately losing the World Series.

Following 18 seasons as a coach for the Giants, he was removed as pitching coach and moved into a front-office position. He also served as the coach of the US national baseball team in 2023.
